남북 관계에 새로운 시대가 열리기를 희망하며...

방북 경과에 관한 Trump과의 브리핑 후 정의용 국가안보실장의 발표

Today, I had the privilege of briefing President Trump on my recent visit to Pyongyang, North Korea.

I’d like to thank President Trump, the Vice President and his wonderful national security team, including my close friend General McMaster.  

I explained to President Trump that his leadership and his maximum pressure policy, together with international solidarity, brought us to this juncture.  

I expressed President Moon Jae-In’s personal gratitude for President Trump’s leadership.

I told President Trump that, in our meeting, North Korean leader Kim Jeong-Eun said he is committed to denuclearization. 

Kim pledged that North Korea will refrain from any further nuclear or missile tests. 

He understands that the routine joint military exercises between the Republic of Korea and the United States must continue. 

And he expressed his eagerness to meet President Trump as soon as possible. 

President Trump appreciated the briefing and said he would meet Kim Jeong-Eun by May to achieve permanent denuclearization.

The Republic of Korea, along with the United States, Japan, and our many partners around the world remain fully and resolutely committed to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Along with President Trump, we are optimistic about continuing a diplomatic process to test the possibility of a peaceful resolution.

The Republic of Korea, the United States and our partners stand together in insisting that we not repeat the mistakes of the past, and that the pressure will continue until North Korea matches its words with concrete actions.

평창올림픽을 전후로 얼마전까지는 상상도 할 수 없는 수준으로 남북관계에 대한 새로운 전기(Juncture)가 마련되고 있다.

남북한... 우리의 문제이긴 하지만, 미국이 정전 당사자이기도 하고 워낙 비중있는 지위를 가지고 있는 터라 예측불가의 Trump 눈치를 살피지 않을 수 없고... 비위도 맞춰줘야 하지만... 그래도 지금까지의 분위기는 상당히 좋다.

이러다가 정말 종전도 되고, 남북간의 교류도 활발해 져서...

궁국적으로는 우리나라가 북한을 지나 유럽까지 육상으로 나래를 펼칠 기회를 맡게 되지 않을까 하는 기대를 하게 된다.

물론 정의용실장의 발표와 미국 당국자의 발표에서 공통적으로 비핵화와 관련한 북한의 확고한 행동(concrete actions)이 수반되어야 하는 전제조건이 있지만, 사고의 틀을 조금만 바꾸면.... 그 동안 묵혀왔던 많은 문제들이 순풍에 돛 단듯 일사천리로 풀려나갈 수도 있다는 희망이 결코 허황되지만은 않아 보인다.

우리나라는 대륙의 끝에 위치하고 있지만 북한과 휴전선이라는 특수성으로 인해 그 동안 섬과 다름없었던 점을 생각하면, 이번에는 정말 새로운 시대를 열 수 있기를 간절히 기원한다. 

그래서 이를 계기로 거짓 안보팔이로 국민을 속이고 자신들의 기득권을 누려온 자들도 더 이상 안 보고 살 날이 오기를 바란다.

그리고, 우리 지오와 고운이도 더 넓은 세상으로... 더 큰 꿈을 꾸며 살 수 있기를...
