Stranger Things Season 2 - 맘에 드는 대사 모음

 

추석 연휴 동안에 Stranger Things 시즌2를 마무리했다.

 

시즌 1을 보았을 때, 흥미로운 소재를 다룬 저예산 영화를 보는 것 같은 느낌이 들었다.

 

대단한 특수효과나 화려한 액션은 없지만, 이야기에 몰입할 수 있고... 계속해서 보는 이로 하여금 긴장감을 유지하면서 스토리를 끌고 나가는 것이 제작비는 적게 들였지만 재미있게 만든 그런 류(?)의 영화를 연상시켰기 때문이다.

 

시즌 1이 끝나고 나서, 시즌 2가 나올 것이라는 소식을 접한 터라 기다리고 있었다가... 시즌 2가 마무리 되고 나서도 한참 되어서야 이렇게 완주를 한 것이다.

보면서 몇몇 인상 깊거나... 남기고 싶은 대사를 담아 보았다.

 

 

Episode 1  37:57 ~ 39:06

Will :  They all treat me like I'm gonna break.
        Like I'm a baby. Like I can't handle things on my own.
        It doesn't help. It just makes me feel like more of a freak.

 

Jonathan :   You're not a freak.

 

Will : Yeah, I am. I am.

 

Jonathan :  You know what? You're right. You are a freak.

 

Will : What?

 

Jonathan :  No, I'm serious. You're a freak.
               But what? Do you wanna be normal? Do you wanna be just like everyone else?
               Being a freak is the best. I'm a freak.

 

Will : Is that why you don't have any friends?

 

Jonathan : I have friends, Will.

 

Will : Then why are you always hanging out with me?

 

Jonathan : Because you're my best friend, all right?
              And I would rather be best friends with Zombie Boy than with a boring nobody.
              You know what I mean?
              Okay, look...
              Who would you rather be friends with? Bowie or Kenny Rogers?

 

Will : Ugh.

 

Jonathan : Exactly. It's no contest.
              The thing is, nobody normal ever accomplished anything meaningful in this world.
              You got it?

 

 

죽은 줄로만 알았다가 살아 돌아온 Will을 아이들이 Zombie Boy라고 놀리고, 부모나 주변 사람들이 모두 조심조심하는 것이 불만이고 부담스러운 Will을 역시 약간은 같은 또래의 다른 친구들과는 다른 그의 형 Jonathan이 달래주는 상황이다.

 

이들의 대화를 보면서... 자신들과 다른 것을 문제시 하고... 틀린 것처럼 대하는 세상 사람들에 대해 내가 평상시에 가지고 있던 아쉬움이 Jonathan의 입을 빌어 표현되는 것 같아 마음에 와 닿았다.

 

사람들은 저마다 다를 수 밖에 없고, 서로의 차이를 인정하면서... 마치 별들과 행성들이 각자의 공간에서 각자의 방향과 속도로 움직이듯이 그렇게 세상이 돌아가는 것임을 이해하는 세상이 되기를 바란다.

Librarian : Mr. Henderson, you know the rules. Five at a time.

 

Dustin : Yep. One, two, three, four and five.

 

Librarian : Ten. You already have five books checked out.

 

Dustin : My mistake. However...
           I am on a curiosity voyage, and I need my paddles to travel.
          These books...  These books are my paddles.

 

Librarian : Five at a time.

 

 

Dustin은 꽤나 과학 지식이 많고 영리한 아이지만... 아직은 그 나이 또래의 어리숙함도 가지고 있다. 그로 인해서 큰 사고를 치게 되기도 하지만... 도서관에서 대출 한도를 초과해서 책을 빌리고자 하는 과정에서의 대화가 재미있다.

 

 

Episode 6  05:54 ~ 06:13

Joyce : No. No, he has been telling you over and over that something's wrong,
          and you said it was all in his head.
          You said, "Be patient." Those were your words.

 

Dr. Sam : I understand that you're upset, okay? I get it.
             I would be, too, if I were in your shoes.
            But we are all in the same boat here, and I just need you to try...

 

Joyce : What? Stay calm? Trust you?

 

이 부분은 if I were in your shoes, we are all in the same boat 와 같은 몇 가지 영어 표현이 맘에 들어서 담아 보았다.

 

 

이 드라마의 시대적인 배경이 1980년대쯤 되는 것 같다. Bon Jovi의 Living on a player가 배경음악으로 나온다거나, 프로그래밍 언어로 Basic이 언급되는 거 보면 말이다.

 

 

그나 저나... 시즌 3도 하려나??
