영어 표현 : under a cloud (of suspicion) - (혐의를 받아) 명예가 실추된

 

이번에 다룰 표현인 under a cloud 역시 Desingated Survivor 시즌 1의 15편에 나오는 대사에서 발췌를 해 보았다. 

 

미국 하원의장(The Speaker of the House of Representatives)인 Kimble Hookstraten과 비서실장에서 물러난 Aaron Shore 사이의 대화에서 해당 표현이 나온다.

 

 

Kimble : Why do you wanna be a lobbyist?

Aaron : Well, when you leave a high White House position under a cloud,

          well, let's say your options are somewhat limited.

          글쎄요. 백악관 고위직을 명예가 실추된 상태로 그만둔다면, 선택할 수 있는 옵션에 한계가 있다고 할까요.

 
Kimble : You didn't leave under a cloud. 
            I mean, I'll admit, It's a little mysterious, but there's no hint of scandal... is there?

            당신은 불명예스럽게 그만둔 것이 아니에요.

            내 말은... 당신이 그만둔 것엔 의문이 많지만, 스캔들이라고 할 건 전혀 없잖아요. 있나요? 

Aaron : No

           없죠.

Kimble : Okay then. Wouldn't you rather be on the inside?
           그럼 됐죠. 당신은 요직(要職)에서 일하는 것이 더 낫지 않겠어요?
